Are You a Good Candidate for Laser Eye Surgery?

There is no denying that laser eye surgery has made impressive strides over the last two decades. After all, laser eye surgery has helped correct the vision of millions upon millions of Americans in that span of time.

Unfortunately, not everyone is a good candidate for laser eye surgery. After all, there are a number of criteria that help determine whether the procedure will be successful or not. With that in mind, here are a few of those criteria:

Existing Cornea is Thick Enough

Since laser eye surgery will be reshaping your cornea, the best candidates for laser eye surgery are those whose corneas are thick enough. Operating on corneas that are too thin may lead to compromised results.

Eyes Should be Healthy

In general, your eyes should be healthy. If you are suffering from an eye injury or conjunctivitis, you will need to wait for those to clear up before pushing through with the procedure.

Your Prescription is Within Limits

If your prescription is very high (nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism), you may not be a good candidate for laser eye surgery. Results from extreme refractive errors tend to be unpredictable and opens the door for complications.

In the event you are ruled out for laser eye surgery in Orange County, do not panic. Your doctor should be able to provide you with other alternatives to correct your vision such as a refractive lens exchange or implantable lenses.
