If you are scheduled to undergo cataract surgery in Los Angeles in the coming weeks, you may be wondering what you can do to make both the procedure itself and the succeeding recovery period easier for you. With that in mind, here are four simple steps you can take to better prepare yourself for cataract surgery:
File a Leave of Absence
After cataract surgery, your eyes will need a day or two to recover. Make sure you’re able to take at least a day off from work after the procedure. If you lack the necessary vacation leaves, try scheduling your procedure on a Friday.
Disclose All Your Medication
A few weeks prior to the procedure, be sure to disclose any medication you may be taking to your doctor. Certain medication may interfere with the procedure or inhibit your ability to heal properly. A respected eye surgeon like Dr. Ferzaad Moosa should be able to tell you if it’s fine to continue taking your medicine before the surgery.
Stay Clear of Alcohol
It is highly advised that you steer clear of alcoholic drinks for at least 24 hours before your procedure. Alcohol may interfere with the anesthesia administered to you right before cataract surgery. Besides, having a hangover before surgery isn’t exactly an ideal situation for both you and your doctor.
Bring a Friend
Needless to say, you won’t really be able to drive yourself home with one eye. Ask a family member or a close friend if he or she can accompany you to the procedure and drive you home afterwards.
