Is Laser Eye Surgery a Permanent Solution?

If you’re considering laser eye surgery, you will want to know it’s a permanent solution. Whether or not to have surgery is a big decision to make and people do not want to have to go through any type of surgery more than once.

If you choose to proceed with laser eye surgery, you’ll want some assurance that your time and money will be well spent, and you will see a long term improvement in your vision.

Permanent or Temporary?

Laser eye surgery won’t necessarily solve all your visual difficulties. For example, many people still require reading glasses following surgery. This is most common for those over the age of 40. However, aside from minor natural changes, your eyesight will improve permanently following surgery.

As with any normal person, your eyesight fluctuates over time, and this will still be the same after laser eye surgery. You will, however, enjoy big improvements in your eyesight, over both long and short distance.

Will I need Corrections?

It is very unusual for someone to need additional laser eye surgery after their first procedure. However, for your peace of mind, discuss with your surgeon whether corrections or enhancements are included in your package so that you’re fully informed. It is important to note that the requirement for a follow-up procedure rarely happens, especially if you have chosen to go to a reputable and experienced surgeon.

With some laser surgeries, such as LASIK, more precise procedures are carried out as maps of the eye are taken before surgery. This further reduces the likelihood that you’ll need corrections after your first surgery. Although laser eye surgery isn’t a one-time solution for all your vision problems, after the procedure you will notice huge improvements in your eyesight that last for many years.
